M6 Observation Research
OVERVIEW
Research begins by observation. The researcher notices a problem, a phenomenon, or something interesting that he or she would like to explore further. In other words, he/she starts with an observation and then asks a question to find an answer. For example, a researcher might wonder how often people touch each other in public, for example when they are eating in a restaurant. The researcher would have to find an appropriate place to observe people and count how often they touch each other in one hour. |
Later, the research might compare the number of time in different situations. For example, he/she might consider the age of people (e.g. do younger people touch each other more often than older people?), their activity (e.g. do people touch each other more when they are alone or when they are in a group?)
